Origami Folding Session at Origamido, Waikiki

"Origami Do Experience - Waikiki International Market Place 2330 KALAKAUA AVE ESPLANADE BLDG # ES-201 The Int'l Market Place is a multi-building cluster of shops and vendor carts in the middle of Waikiki, between Kalakaua and Kuhio, and between Dukes Lane and the Princess Ka' Iulani hotel. Origamido, Inc. (Michael LaFosse and Richard Alexander) has moved their Origamido Studio gallery / teaching / publishing (but not hand papermaking) from Massachusetts to Waikiki at least for this winter." This will be a much more informal and relaxed session. I am not planning on formal classroom style lessons, but teaching from Me, Richard, Micheal, and other artists to others at an informal level is bound to happen (which is much more fun I think). I encourage everyone to talk and share with each other as well. There are origami models, books, and custom handmade paper for sale here, as well as many exhibits made by many of the top origami artists. FOR FREE ADMISSION: This event is open to the public, all ages. There would be a flat fee, but if you are coming from my referral, either from the meetup page, my e-mailings, or from word of mouth, there is no charge. Just pin some simple origami on your shirt to distinguish yourselves. You could use something you made at a session! SUPPLIES: Please also bring your own kami to fold with. Although there is some regular paper for sale at OrigamiDo, it is suggested to buy kami at Walmart, DonQuixote, Ben Franklin, Fishers, Hakubundo, or any other supplier before you come. DRIVING TO WAIKIKI: Since this is in Waikiki I am passing some advise from Richard about driving to the studo. He advises carpooling from free lots outside of Waikiki (STRONGLY Recommended), bus lines, or parking options in Waikiki. Or people can take advantage of the $7 for 10 hour deals on the Kuhio side of IMP (Miramar or Ohana Hotel garages). Bring quarters for meters. There are often free spots along Ala Wai, or down by the Zoo (less than 10-min walk). There is also food available at the many vender's in the food court nearby. Some of the possible topics for discussions are: Traditional Complex Crease patterns Abstract Tessellations Unit Origami Modular polyhedra Bill folds Origamics (the Math of Origami) Origami in Science Or any application of Origami
