Lo'i Kalo Mini Park - taro planting and harvesting

This is a family friendly event that brings the community volunteers together to plant and harvest kalo (taro) and clean the park area. Please bring gloves, a water bottle, and be ready to work. This community event occurs on the 1st Saturday of every month starting at 8 a.m. at 1243 Loi Kalo Place in Kalihi. To get there, if driving Diamond Head bound on School Street, pass through the Houghtailing traffic light. Then pass another three buildings. On the right side of the road, you will see the blue building. Turn right into that lane that has a street sign saying "Lo’i Kalo Place." The driveway is across the street from Helena’s Restaurant (if you know the area). Be sure to call or email Robert Silva to confirm that the event will be held. Sometimes the event is canceled.Cell: 808-258-1135Email: rsilva1@hawaii.edu Robert Silva usually gets there between 6:30 and 7:00am. The official starting time is 8:00am but come earlier if that’s good for you and your family/friends.
